You are cordially invited to Think Globally...
That's right folks: On Thursday, April 28th, 2005 AIESEC Madison is throwing its first annual business networking event titled: "Thinking Globally." I'm not sure if anyone else in AIESEC US has done something like this before, but we have had some great success with our first attempt. On the guest list we have:
- 12 Business Represensatives, including Madison Magazine, Prudential and the Wisconsin Commerce Department
- 6 University officials, including the keynote speaker Dean of International Relations Giles Bousquet
- 5 Board of Advisors
- 7 Alumni, such as Laima Rozkalns (who we have never met before) and bloggers Cat and Craig Dawson
- 3 Former Trainees
- And, last but not least, 21 eager AIESEC Madison members!
We rented out a swanky dining hall, including drinks and delicious international morsals, we got the nametags printed, marketing materials in hand, and we are ready to rock!
We've been to a lot of networking events this year, and created a lot of relationship that we hope to build with this event. Hey, why just go to networking events when you can throw your own? Wish us luck!

Wellll sheeit, more drinks I'm misisng out on! Gotta go get me some of that madison fun.
On a completely useless and unhelpful note, AIESEC Purdue did something similar back in '98 or '99. It was mostly for Alumni & Trainees but some companies were there I think. I mostly remember the cash bar. There was even some follow up on it, until the person doing all the alumni stuff left a year or so later.
Do it, but follow up. Make it a regular thing and follow up. Get contacts to bring other contacts, and follow up.

Did BG mention to follow-up? Always seems to be AIESEC's greatest weakness.

What's even more amazing is how many times you hear "oh we're gonna work on follow-up" But then no one follows up on follow-up.

Laima was part of 'my generation', will be good to see her again.
Oh, and please don't let this die. Too many good ideas have been generated, but never implemented. You've got the first step taken care of, now do something with it.

Whenever someone has to say "follow up on follow-up" you know there is a problem!
