Hello, i happened onto your post by accident, but I would like to say that I am from the New Orleans area, and there was nothing exagerrated except to estimated body count of "Katrina Related" deaths. Meaning people who died during the storm or after the storm via either drowning from flood waters or illness ffrom the flood waters. What they didnt tell you on the news is the number of criminals and gang members that were killed. I have friends that were on the task force with the state police when they went in soon after the storm. He said "lets just put it this way, we ran out of ammunition the first night". The orders were if they have a gun, and threating someone else, shoot. And there were "things" going on at the convention center, they knew they were there, that wasn't a "slip through the cracks" for a couple days situation. It was a dont' let the media in till we clean up the place, meaning the criminal element. This information i got directly from a friend who was undercover sorting out the gang members and the head honcho. They did start "removing" the problem a lil at a time, till they could get the numbers better in there favor. There was a "boss" or head gang person with food water and generator, he would send his lackies out to retrive what he wanted food water, sex object (regardless of age). These people (the criminals) were living like this was life from now on, it was like a post-apocolyptical movie. I can say much about the super dome i don't have any info on that, but i do know the guys that were reporting from inside during the storm left after it was over. there were cameramen left but i don't know what was "allowed" out of there...do you think that the local governments (NOLA and LA state) are going to let out to much "bad press". ANd as far as the US gov, im sure they wouldn't want everyone to know exactly what is going on. Also i'd like to mention that, in case you having been watching the news, The Nation Guard has been called back in again. New Orleans only have about 200 police officers on the force currently, which if i remember correctly is about a 10th of the pre-katrina numbers. I wish i could contact that "independant news" web site, i see the writer is from Los Angles, i guess you get a lot of first hand perspective from 2000 miles away.
