In Memoriam Ahmed Arshi

I never thought I would have to write something like this. For the first time in my life, today I was informed that one of my close friends had passed away.
I met Ahmed six months ago in Kenya and he has been the only person I stayed in touch with after that trip. There was a reason I did. I have rarely met someone with the passion, energy and joy for life. The discussions we have had and the laughs we shared gave me so much. I have followed every step of his film and books, trying to keep them apart and admired the work and compassion for others that shone through.
I feel that I should quote something that Ahmed wrote to me a few months back when I was feeling sad, since many of my friends were leaving the country:
"This is part of life, you meet people, you leave people. only true friends leave foot prints behind them that will stay in your memory forever. but once you look on that world map and knowing that you are able to go anywhere cuz you have friends everywhere makes you feel on top of the world, basically being a "Global Citizen" thats what AIESEC creates!stay always happy cuz one day someone will be missing you when it's your time to leave! :) "
He will be missed. By people from all over the world, who he has made both laugh and think.

Ahmed was also involved in expanding AIESEC into the UAE, if he is the same Ahmed that I am thinking of, which I guess he is.

Just this Sunday I was refered the site whyshouldIcare regarding the Kenya project... it is sad to see how quickly a life can pass away, and a chance for us to cherish our time on earth... I quickly ready Ahmed's blog and heartwarmed by the thought that at least a legacy of his thoughts and passions are on the web and in their past project.

Tom yes this was Ahmed who was involved briefly involved in the startup of AIESEC UAE and was an LCP in Canada. He also did a couple of CEEDs and an internship i believe in Turkey.
Ahmed was an amazing friend, a visionary leader and kind hearted human. AIESEC needs to continue developing people like Ahmed. People like him who really spent every day of their lives trying to make a positive impact on the world and the people around him.
At the age of 25 he was very accomplished, going through the whole AIESEC Experience, writting 5 books, directing a movie and establishing a non for profit with fellow AIESECers.
Ahmed, i hope you are Resting In Peace and in a better place! Humanity will miss your passion, drive and energy.

I had heard so much about him, from the egyptians that were and AfroExpro's and from kurt (neoka.nomadlife.org).
It was really sad to hear what happened a couple of weeks ago.
That was a life that was not wasted.

I have no words.
I did not know Ahmed well, but I did meet him at the Quebec conference last year... wow.
An amazing person, definately.

Here is a portion of a note I received from a friend:
"It happened during (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend. Ahmed was on a trip to the UAE to work out some visa issues before heading out to Europe and Kenya for his Kenya-Why Should I Care Project. While there, he was eating blowfish, that apparently was not cooked properly, and he died of poisoning. That is most information I have to date.
Very sudden, very sad"
This the most information I have and I can not guarantee its truth.
Ahmed was an active LC member of one of our local LCs when I was on the MC in Canada...this is all quite shocking.

I can't believe that Ahmed is gone. I also met him in Kenya and he impacted me a lot in a very short amount of time. He made me laugh, he made me think, he was truely an inspiration...exactly the type of person that makes me proud to be in Aiesec.
I hate to use a metaphor, but it reminds me of the phrase "the brightest flames burn out the quickest". Ahmed had a passion for life that I have rarely seen. I will miss him, as I'm sure everyone who knew him will.

Dear friends.
I want to thank you all for your warm words and compassion, especially thank you to Sabrina for this memoriam.
It has been over a month now since we lost a great brother.
I wanted to update you all on the progress of his vision. Myself, along with other peer Aiesecers, especially those that were with him in Kenya for the filming of the project, have pushed this project and Ahmeds vision forward. When someone leaves us, it does 1 of 2 things... tears people apart, or brings people together. Because of Ahmeds warm character, he has done more than just bring people together, he has inspired all of us. Eternity is his, for every momment any of us has spent with him, heard his stories, or seen him in action, have been influenced and impacted.
Life is a Reason, Make it a Good one.
