Bengaluru?
Bangalore, the IT hub of India, is getting a new name.
I'm sorry to say that this looks like a foolish decision. How do you pronounce Bengaluru?

That used to be it's name before the British turned up, they obviously shared your sentiments ;)
But yes, now I'll have to say "I'm from Benga-loo-roo"

Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and now Bengaluru (from mid-next year anyway). Can the good citizens of the city block this one just like they recently threatened not to pay taxes unless infrastructure improved?
All said and done, I was born in Bombay and nothing (especialy not a political gimmick) can ever make me say Mumbai.

I have mixed feelings about this. Obviously as Aditi said, until a 100 years back my great grand father called it Bengaluru.
But as Pierre said, changing the name on maps wont make us start calling Bombay Mumbai or Bangalore something else.
Another point that goes to prove that a lot of my countrymen suffer from anti-colonial sentiments. They dont understand that to be ashamed of our past is to be ashamed of our present.
