Best Movies of 2005
Now that we are ending the end of the year, you can find bazillion of top ten or twenty list of best movies of the year.
Well the problem is those lists are very US oriented-with mostly English language movie; a lot of us movie goers are robbed from the opportunities to see great movies that are not distributed internationallly.
So share us great local movies of 2005 you have watched.

I havent seen too many Russian 2005 releases, but one of the best ones is "9 Rota" in English it would mean "9 company", The movie is about the Afghan war. One of the big hits in Russia, but the biggest hit is "Nochnoy Dozor" which means "Night Watch".

Though I'm not totally sure of their release dates, I would put 'House of Flying Daggers' and the Korean film '3-Iron' onto that list. By far, they are the best films I saw in 2005.

"Paradise Now," a film about two Palestinian best friends and there decision to become suicide bombers. It was pretty amazing. I won't ruin the ending, but it was the first time I've ever seen a crowded theater become dead silent for about ten seconds after the film ends.

I have two favourite Australian movies:
WOLF CREEK: a story about a serial killer operating out of central Australia. It uses the vast cinematic terrrain as an example of endless freedom but also powerlessness against nature.
THE PROPOSITION: looks at small town Australia in the late 1800s. It involves bush rangers, the Irish, Aboriginal trackers, and the drama of the early British penal colony.

The Iraqi movie Turtles Can Fly is pretty good.
I'd also highly recommend the movie Himalaya, although it was released a few years ago.

The French Canadian film "The Barbarian Invasions" - which, although I saw it this year, I understand was the Oscar Foreign Film of 2004. The film's theme is change, and how we adapt to it, by focusing on the relationships a dying man has with his family and close friends. I thought it was a beautiful and very moving film, and highly recommend it.
