Brisbane Courier-Mail reported "RACIAL tensions in the Sydney suburb of Cronulla exploded again last night when groups of men descended on the suburb seeking revenge for Sunday's attacks."Riots are a disease of public order breakdown and we are probably seeing the immediate after effect of the beach riot yesterday. No shot was fired in above picture but it showed that an instance of police being assertive in 'owning the night' and prevent revenge attacks that will deteriorate the situation even further.
But public order is one thing and peace is another. One must ask though, is this a race riot or a culture riot? These two are different animals and can be hard to distinguish especially in a diverse multi cultural country like Australia.
Arthur just got back home in Sydney Australia two days ago and this is what he has to say
"Are there racists in Australia? Of course, and there always have been. But usually we ignore this minority. As a rule we don't publish their narrow minded half-thoughts in our national papers. Every city has its uneducated yobs who claim to be patriots. In fact such low end patriotism is much rarer in Australia then most places in the world because we don't really care. Our national identity is rarely challenged because we are an island and thus we rarely find reason to express it, save perhaps on the sporting field. It scares me to think that these ignorants have such a lacking sense of identity that they keenly rally around minority scapegoating while glorifying such meaningless and pitiful icons that they try and tag to our nation identity."
