Cruel Game
I saw in the news this morning that some crazy person invented a video game that shows people crossing the mexican/us border... and the player has to shoot this people!!
You even get more points if you shoot a pregnant lady or a child!!!!!!!!!

How far can a video game go?
Why aren't we powerful enough to influence this people?
Where is the change when the only people that change are the ones that were not racist in the first place.
I would say that there are not racist in AIESEC (maybe I'm wrong) butseriously what can we do to change people who IS??????

Forgot to mention that there are other video games in which you have to kill anyone who is not white!!!
(let's make one where you have to kill anyone you doesn't want to make a positive change in the world!... never mind...)

reminds a little bit of an old game called carmeggedan... you got points for running over people with souped up cars. style points for how you did it, and bonuses for hitting little old ladies (they moved suprisingly fast) and little kids. it was based (losely) on a movie called death race 2000. (one of david carradine's finest efforts)
i agree the game lacks tact, but is it such a big leap from games where the 'bad guys' are a certain ethnicity because of location or storyline?

I totally agree with Ethel on this point. Games like that only teach us to become racists. And small children are taught through these games how to hate other minorities without understanding why. They just accept it and act accordingly when they are older.
And how many times there is actually a story line behind in the game? I saw guys playing several games and the only point was to kill, nothing really to achieve. And how many times (maybe there are games like that) you have Mexicans killing americans in the game. Mexicans being the good ones and Americans the bastards?!

On the other hand it is important to realize that a game is just a game.
The theme of this particular game is distasteful but countless virtual people have been killed in ingenous ways in games before and nobody is turning into a killer.
Majority of gamers are adults and games become popular because of its graphic and gameplay, not necessarily because you can kill virtual Mexicans crossing the US border. I suspect this game is a crappy game with limited appeal because no serious development team will consider doing such theme.

ok dody, maybe it is not relevant for grown ups, but children need advice, otherwise they can grow up thinking that is the right think to do.
Anyway, I am more calm now...
My real concern is how can we change the mindset of the kind of people that develop this games? How can we change a person from racist to tolerant?

The people developing games with little depth like this one certainly aren't making money. They have an agenda and this is their medium. If it weren't for people shocked at their actions, these games would go unknown.
The way to change these people?.. Stop rewarding their efforts. Stop advertising their agenda through your outrage!
Do your best to demonstrate through your actions that kind of behaviour isn't encouraged. Educate those who show approval of such actions.
If you are worried about children, emphasize the idea that killing is wrong, all people are created equal, and that games are about competition, not violence. If they can't grasp these concepts then they should wait to play the game until they do.
Negative attention is still reinforcement. You can't control the actions of other people, but you can control how you react to them.
