Blessed are the peacemakers

"Australian peacekeepers, who number a full complement of 1,300, patrolled the streets here on Sunday, and less looting and burning occurred than in previous days.
Two Australian Navy ships were anchored offshore and were easily visible to terrified residents who sought reassurance after weeks of battling between factions of East Timor's security forces. In the last several days, there has also been sustained looting and burning by gangs." (NYTimes)
Timor Leste is the youngest nation on Earth. It was thrown into chaos a week ago after some of its army rebelled. The country still depends on international aids after its independence from Indonesia four years ago (which ends 450 years of foreign rule, majority under Portugal) being Asia's poorest country. Its oil deal with Australia will bring much needed revenue to the country. With proper and wise investment of this fund, it will be able to support its 800,000 populace. But for now, they need peace and the restoration of law and order. Again the Aussies lend a hand like they did in 1999. Good job mate.
