indifference?
Passing a msg:
" Take some time to look at the two links below. Nothing terrible is going to happen if you don't send this email to 10 people in the first 10 minutes after reading this. Even if you do, this petition probably won't change anything anyways. But wherever we are, i think we owe it to ourselves to do what we can when things like this happen. I'll leave you with this story someone told me when i was in university some years ago and which has always stuck with me.
"In the 50s, the US government was busy testing nuclear bombs. Before one particular test, a huge crowd gathered to protest. But it was to no avail. That coming Sunday, the bomb test was going ahead as planned. that Sunday, a lone man walked from where he lived to the middle of the desert, where the bomb was going to be tested, holding up his little sign. A reporter went up to him and asked, mockingly: 'what are you doing? you're here by yourself. the test is going to happen regardless of what you do. you're not going to change anything.' to this, the man replied: 'i'm not trying to change the world. i'm trying to stop the world from changing me.'"
So let's not be indifferent.

Check out the pictures of marwaheen massacre (South of Lebanon). Please pass this email on to all your friends, especially europeans and americans because these pictures will never be shown onoccidental mainstream media.
The Lebanese Medical Students' International Committee, has prepared a petition, to be sent to the UN, UN Security Council, EU, and other NGOs, institutions and councils working in the field of Human Rights and Peace.

Anybody to post some pictures of the victims of Palestinian suicide bombings or HizbAllah's rockets?
Sad to see such biased propaganda being linked on nomadlife.
I am not indifferent. But things are not THAT simple.
5:12 PM
Dear Thomas please compare the numbers of human losses on both sides and i guess after the huge difference u'll c ur mind will tell u that there's no pictures because simply there's no victims.
7:30 PM
Mr Thomas,
I maintain the marwaheen massacre blog. The point of my blog is not to deliver pro-hezbollah propaganda compaigns. The point is rather to show pictures of what is going on in Lebanon, pictures that they won't show on mainstream media. It is easier for you to accuse me of propaganda than to admit that what is going on in Lebanon is a massive collective punishment and the debut of a genocide.
Hassan
11:18 PM
1. Lebanon government can't control Hezbollah. The UN border control force is incompetent.
2. Hezbollah decided to declare war to Israel by crossing border and kidnapping its soldiers.
3. Israel struck back.
Every single war is a massive collective punishment - regardless who's doing it. Labelling it as a debut of a genocide is a strech to say the least.
If you look at the reactions of the world community, you are actually see that the countries realize it is time to hold Hezbollah responsible for its actions. No one is taking charge of taking them to task about their responsibilities until this current war.

Comparison of Israeli military to Nazis, "insane Israeli killing machine" etc. on the blog. This is propaganda.
"massive collective punishment", "debut of a genocide". This exposes a very twisted perspective and mindset, to say the least.
10:58 AM
Massive collective punishment = Israel is targetting the infrastructure (airpot, bridges, roads, ports, electrical plants).
Debut of a genocide = hundreds of CIVILIANS killed and thousands wonded.
Comparison of Israeli military to Nazis = Where did u get this ? from my blog ?
Hezbollah decided to declare war to Israel by crossing border and kidnapping its soldiers = Hezbollah said it clearly that his intention is not to declare war but a prisoner swap. It is Israel who declared the war. And by the way, what do you call the israeli violation of the lebanese air space on daily basis since year 2000? A declaration of love ? of peace ? It is clear now that Israel was planning this war for more than one year and was waiting for the "excuse" !! get your facts right and stop twisting reality !
11:19 AM
Comparison to Nazis: The second cartoon posted on 22 July.
Israeli army officer says "The good ol' Nazis taught us a lot ..."
-> the message: The Israeli military behaves like the Nazi army.
12:15 PM
"Hezbollah decided to declare war to Israel by crossing border and kidnapping its soldiers = Hezbollah said it clearly that his intention is not to declare war but a prisoner swap."
So you kick a dog and expect a reasonable response from the dog?
1:20 PM
If a 5 year old child kicks a dog, and the dog attacks the child, his sister, and a few other little kids standing around, then I think that is a more apt comparison.
Israel has a right to defend itself and to confront Hizbollah - and it has a responsibility to respect the lives of innocent bystanders.
Bombing highways and airports and factories is bullshit, and certainly is collective punishment. It will be effective as well, because it will make lebanese people desperate to see an end to the conflict, and that will help Israel win this fight. But it doesnt excuse or justify Israel fighting like dirty motherfuckers - well the second dirtiest motherfuckers in the conflict at least.
The argument that Hizbollah could use the roads to transport weapons seems a bit lame - wouldnt a well funded, established paramilitary like Hizbollah have a farily well established "underground"/backroads network?
Israel is an experienced player in the strategy of collectively demoralising populations, and there is a lot of examples from the 40 year occupation of Gaza and the West Bank to show this - the "Sound Bombs" created by flying jet fighters very low over civilian areas is a disgraceful one especially.
2:02 PM
@Thomas
The cartoon is not propaganda, it is a comparison between the zionist way of doing thigns and the nazi way ! but anyway, you call it what you want, this cartoon delivers its message clearly and in a straight forward way. And by the way, this cartoon is taken from Norman Finkelstein website. Norman's parents died in the holocaust ! And I think you should read his book "The Holocaust industry"

hi
loubnani's blog is certainly not objective, he is lebaneese after all. but you can also find much propaganda coming from Israel. this is also a war of information after all.
for me, i prefer to look at the facts.
10 times more casualties in lebanon. systematic destruction of lebanon as opposed to sporadic destruction in israel. hundreds of thousands displaced in lebanon.
also thomas, palestinian suicide bombers have nothing to do with hezbollah.
12:11 AM
I can't blame hassan for maintaining a blog that is anti-Israel. Geez - I totally agree with Tom when he says they're doing this only to make the Lebanese people desperate for a solution - any solution.
It's disgusting - no matter what results it brings.
2:52 PM
What's even more disgusting is the complete lack of balls anyone has to bring sanctions to Israel for declaring open war on a sovereign state.
Israel knows the Lebanese government does not/ cannot control Hezbollah. The world knows that Israel knows this and they still demand that the Lebanese governmtent bring Hezbollah under control, as per U.N. resolutions (sic!).
2:56 PM
well then who should be responsible for Hezbollah?
Lebanon is not responsible although Hezbollah is in its parliament and control part of its teritories - Iran is not responsible although it is the patron of the organization, etc, etc.
Israel withdrew from Southern Lebanon 6 years ago. If withdrawing doesn't bring you peace, then what's the alternative?

(Jeez, Blogger/my computer posts my unfinished comments while I am on the phone. Now, no time to write the whole thing again.)
If you take the idea of democracy serious, then Lebanese people bear responsibility. They elected Hezbollah to parliament and power in a democratic election.
I think it is a war crime of Hezbollah to take innocent civilians for hostage by locating their rocket launchpads in residential areas, hiding their weapons in civilian houses and using non-military vehicles to transport weapons.
This war is happening because Israel's sovereignty and integrity of its country was attacked by a member of the Lebanese government. It is not an unjustified and for sure not a criminal war.
The scariest aspect is that Israel has got nothing to lose. Two of its neighbouring governments refuse any concession from the Israeli government and do not cease to call for the destruction of the state of Israel, a state recognised by international law.
Now, what do you do in such a case. Wait patiently for it to happen?
4:01 PM
Thomas,
You wrote "This war is happening because Israel's sovereignty and integrity of its country was attacked by a member of the Lebanese government. It is not an unjustified and for sure not a criminal war."
I would love to know what you would call the daily violation of the lebanese airspace by the israeli jet fighters. And this has been going on since year 2000. Declaration of war ? Declaration of peace ?
And I would love you to tell why Israel refuses to give the lebanese government the maps of all anti-personal mines the israeli army has put in South Lebanon. Israel occupied South Lebanon for 18 years and they didnt withdraw for peace's sake !!
What really amazes me is your lack of knowledge regarding the history of this conflict.
11:20 PM
I have a dog that's a bit crazy and has gotten lose. He runs all over the place biting people. I can stop him, but i'm might get bitten myself.
Or I face a huge fine - because my crazy DOG has been biting people. The trouble is I can't deal with the damn dog myself - I need help from someone who can handle crazy dogs. Can anyone step forward to help me?
12:55 AM
Only a dumbass leaves his car unlocked, with keys inside, in the most shady part of town.
A question for which I honestly have no answer, so help is welcome:
Why does Hezbollah deliberately attack innocent civilians by firing rockets on cities, where no military installations are located?
5:30 AM
What I just realised when reading Thomas' and my commments - the opinions from that region are just so strongly pro-one or anti-another, I'm not sure how you can bring the two to the mediation table.
In another development:
"I am shocked and deeply distressed by the apparently deliberate targeting by Israeli Defence Forces of a UN Observer post in southern Lebanon,'' Annan said in a statement
http://www.ibnlive.com/news/israel-strike-un-post-two-killed/16651-2.html
8:03 AM
And more...
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/25/mideast.diplomacy/index.html
Worrying paragraphs:
"The plan, which Rice also will offer to European foreign ministers this week in Italy, depends on several conditions, the sources said.
The first is that Hezbollah either would have to agree to the plan or be defeated militarily.
The second is that Israel wants to drive as far as 20 miles (32 kilometers) into southern Lebanon to end the threat of Hezbollah missiles hitting northern Israel. Such a military campaign might take weeks to accomplish."
8:28 AM
Thomas:
You haven't answered my questions ! out of clues ?
You wrote "Why does Hezbollah deliberately attack innocent civilians by firing rockets on cities, where no military installations are located?".
If you review the attacks timeline, you will notice (if you really want to notice) that Hezbollah fired rockets on civilians of north Israel after the israeli jet fighters attacked lebanese civilian targets (civilians, airport, bridges).
And look at the death toll to this date: 410 dead in Lebanon (all of them are civilians), 15 dead in Israel !
10:56 AM
As I wrote, Israel left Lebanon but is not stupid enough to give Hezbollah complete freedom to carry out their attacks, e.g. by telling them where landmines are located or not surveilling their actions by aerial observation.
Hezbollah's rocket attacks have been happening since (at least) 2000, when Israel left Lebanon. They did not start on 12 July.
You better know the facts.
11:57 AM
Ok, before you start frothing on this one ...: Hezbollah has only been attacking Israel with rockets since 2004. Before, it was small artillery. Sorry for this factual lapse.
I'll finish the debate with you here, because it's not getting anywhere.
I am not of the opinion that Israel is completely innocent of anything. But this war is understandable and justified, given the existential threat that Hezbollah represents for Israel.
The number of deaths is not a measure for the righteousness of a war. After all, as I outlined before, Hezbollah has many options to contribute to minimising civilian death toll but clearly refuses to let go of the PR opportunity that the suffering of innocent civilians represents.
This conflict is not going to be solved until (among other things) both sides accept each other's right of existence. To my knowledge, Israel has never called for the extinction of the Palestinian or even Arab people(s).
12:19 PM
Tom said:"Bombing highways and airports and factories is bullshit, and certainly is collective punishment....The argument that Hizbollah could use the roads to transport weapons seems a bit lame - wouldnt a well funded, established paramilitary like Hizbollah have a farily well established "underground"/backroads network?"
Tom, this is not Mission Impossible 4.5...most likely Hizbollah would have some backroads to be used only in cases of emergency, given their limitations...
The major shipments will go through the main airport and main roads, for the simple reason that they are the most developed and capable of handling large volumes of rockets, carried with massive, high tonage trucks in a short amount of time...You can't transport few thousands rockets on a jeep climbing some dodgy roads on the mountain...
facts are that the hundreds of daily rockets landing on israeli soil ( MORE THAN 125 MISSILES ON WEDNESDAY ONLY) are being brought to southern lebanon through those main roads...It would be a betrayal to its own people, if the israeli government and army would not try to prevent that;
What is a "disproportionate response"? In fact what would constitute "proportionate reponse": Hizbollah throws 5 rockets, Israel throws itself 5 rockets???
I think this is what would be a random act of revenge, not the pursuit of fully stopping the rockets attacks and the massive threat that 12 000 rockets arsenal represent for Israel.
