Sziget begins today
One of Europes largest music festivals, Sziget, kicks off today. Over the next 7 days, more than 1000 acts from across the world will perform live to more than 400,000 spectators. Epic. It all takes place on Obuda, an island on the Danube river in the middle of Budapest. I'll be there for the week - any other nomads passing by? Some of the acts I am pumped to see:
Radiohead, Goran Bregovich, the Prodigy, Natacha Atlas, Gomez, Placebo, Anima Sound System, Iggy Pop.....
And the list goes on. Any nomads got any live experience of Scissor Sisters or Franz Ferdinand? Havent listened to either of them much.....
Will rock out for y'all...
UPDATE - home from day one. Sziget is just an amazing time and place to be in. unbelievable.
UPDATE 2 - The Hungarian ambassador to the US played a gig tonight with his blues band. What an awesome country.

Hey Tom,
I saw both Scissor Sisters and Franz Ferdinand together back in 2004. SS definitely had more energy and fun to their performance. Franz Ferdinand were exactly what I expected from a band from a Scottish band. Solid musically but they followed SS and could not match their raunchy performance.
I'm not a big fan of either band's music. So for me the better performance of Scissor Sisters was more appealing.

just back from day 1.
Franz Ferdinand were average, in my opinion. For sure a tight rock band, the have a decent sound going on and everything, but just nothing special to me....
boban markovic was amazing tonight, and i had no idea how incredible this whole Serbian brass thing was. the craziest, most energetic party musi i have ever heard...

dear alex,
yo. I've got to tell you. Franz is great. Live performance, is at times spotty, but coming from someone who has covered their music for longer than a year... quite hip. lets not hate on the scottish, there form of art has nothing to do with shock, instead labeled 'smart rock' by my people who followed 'art rock' back in the day... i being a bit too young to be allowed to listen to anything other than richie valenz
scissor cisters get by on the same shock value that tattoo gets by on, only dirtier... making them only slightly more credible, with much better music.
if you like rock, go see franz. Get into them and don't look back. Shock Value is not music, it's performance art...
Who's GOING TO FIGHT? SCISSOR SISTERS OR FRANZ? I'M GOING FOR FRANZ

Tom, have you seen Goran Bregovic yet? His music is incredible! He'll most likely play "Kalashnikov", or what we know as "that crazy fast version of the Cotton Eye Joe AIESEC dance" :-)
9:45 AM
goran bregovic is tonight. there was another serbian brass brand last night though, boban markovic, and they were absolutely incredible...
10:59 AM
Have fun tonight then! I saw Goran Bregovic at a festival here about two weeks ago. Was phenom :-)
2:14 PM
I saw Franz Ferdinand in Lyuxebourg just a few months ago, they were awesome! It`s also about getting the crowd going I think. Goran Bregovic should be extremely entertaining on stage :)
Keep us posted Tom :)
