Is China jacking Western search companies?
There are reports that in china URL requests for Google, Yahoo! Search, and Live Search are being redirected to Baidu. Can any of the China nomads comment on this?

I just did a short search and everything works as it should. Probably just some rumors...
Blogspot, however, has been blocked again, following the 17th Communist Party of China meeting. Youtube, to much annoyance, was also blocked last week.

It wasn't just rumors; there were confirmations that it was happening, but it didn't seem to be across the board.
Interesting.

well, it would also make a lot of economic sense. traffic is money, what Google/Yahoo/ect... really do is monetize all their traffic, so finding a way to forward all search traffic to a local site would truly benefit that search engine (with the additional benefit that users can probably not find as much criticism of topics you don't want to have communicated)

which way did you vote at the meeting, sheila?

might also just be one ISP or add in to one's browser that is forwarding all typo and other search traffic to an alternative search engine than Google/Yahoo, etc...

At the end of the day, does it really even matter if foreign search engines are routed to Baidu? All the results on Google.cn and Yahoo.cn are censored anyway!
