Egypt tries to enforce licensing on Pyramids and ancient Egypt figures

Zahi Hawass, who chairs Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, told the BBC the law would apply in all countries.
The money was needed to maintain thousands of pharaonic sites, he said.
Correspondents say the law will deal a blow to themed resorts across the world where large-scale copies of Egyptian artefacts are a crowd-puller.
Mr Hawass said the law would apply to full-scale replicas of any object in any museum in Egypt." (BBC)
Yikes.

I don't get it, it will apply to full-scale replicas of any object in a museum in Egypt, but not if they are not exact replicas?
Then just change the colors and it will not be an exact replica, or add the nose to the sphinx and then you are covered, right?
It seems like it will only affect real size pictures, and copies of smaller objects!!

It's a general lack of understanding of what copyright is. It sounds like they're hurting for money, and they think this will be a simple idea to enforce.
This is going to be a nightmare all around.

what I find interesting though is the attempt to make a law that would apply everywhere. There's no way they will get that implemented.
Can you imagine, any country in the world could just pass a law that applies in the rest of the world?
