Some of you may remember seeing Jen's post last month about Schapelle Corby, an Australian woman arrested when Indonesia with a whole lot of marijuana in her luggage (which she says someone else put there). Anyway, today is the day the verdict will be handed down on her case. While browsing through the Australian newspapers on the web this morning, I was bemused to find the following at the bottom of this Sydney Morning Herald article:
Get the Corby verdict sent straight to your mobile. SMS now to 1999 5550 the letters SMH and you'll receive it as soon as it happens. Service provided by Legion Interactive at a cost of 55 cents. Registration closes at 3pm Sydney time. The SMH makes no profit from this service.
Now I'm already not a huge fan of the role that corporate media plays in current society, nor the intellectual level of the masses that allow it to thrive, but I found this dismaying me just a little bit more.
