Police: Walton County Woman Married To 5 Men

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A woman with a long list of aliases and husbands remains in the Walton County Jail.
Officials arrested Shauna Keith last week. They said the 27-year-old woman married five men, all members of the military.
She is also accused of having five social security numbers.
According to authorities, Keith married a man in the army in Kentucky in 2006. She then allegedly married a marine on the front porch of a home outside Walnut Grove on Christmas Eve 2007. Officials also said Keith told the marine’s family she was the daughter of 82nd Airborne Division Commander Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez.
Officials said Keith went back to her apartment in North Carolina while her new husband went to the Marine base in Camp Lejeune. Officials said she was living with another marine when they located her. Authorities said Keith has married personnel from every branch of the armed services except the U.S. Coast Guard.
Police said they believe Keith stole identities from her sister-in-law and a dead woman.
Officials said she has three children. One child lives with the father in San Diego and two are in the custody of her mother in Oregon. Investigators say Keith is currently pregnant.
She is charged with bigamy and fraud.

Hip Hop and Literature Blogs

Hey people,

Following on from the post below. I've started two new blogs, hiphop.nomadlife.org and literature.nomadlife.org. While they are getting up and running, I am looking for contributors for both.

Hip Hop - The idea behind this blog will be to discuss news and developments in this important and influential subcultures. Music-wise, we will be discussing both commercial and underground hip hop, album reviews, profiles of underground artists and industry news. The blog won't be limited to just music, but also graffiti, breakdancing, emceeing and any other aspects of the culture that contributors see fit to post about. Being a nomadlife blog, I'd love to see elements of hip hop culture blogged about from around the world, not just the USA.

Literature - The idea behind this blog is fairly simple: I for one, as an avid reader, like to share my thoughts on books I read, discuss them with others, and get ideas for other books to read. It would be cool to have a few discussions on important books happening, book reviews for people who want recommendations and maybe even a nomadlife book club where we read a particular book every month, for example, and then discuss it. Again, an international element to this would be cool, and it would be nice to feature authors from around the world, and not only in English.

I'm really hoping there'll be people interested in contributing to these blogs cos the whole community blogging concept isn't gonna work if its only one or two people contributing so please comment on this post if you're interested in getting involved in one or both of these blogs.

Nomadlife - Community Blogs

Hey Nomadlifers,

So I've been thinking for a while that perhaps a solution to the current situation of apathy/disconnection over the nomadlife home page and lack of community feeling is starting a group of community type blogs with numerous contributors. The example for this is the Ramadan blog, which I believe has been a pretty effective example of multiple contributors to a blog.

The topics for these could be varied, as broad as "literature" or as specific as, say, "Bollywood music"... or even moreso, it's up to y'all. We could also have these community blogs listed in a different, more prominent section of the nomadlife home page than the current blog updater, which would encourage people to read and contribute. I think it would be quite cool and I know I was intending to start one for 'hip hop' quite some time ago and never got around to it.

What do people think? Does it sound like something you'd want to contribute to? Any ideas for topics for these? Anyone? Bueller? Dody?

The idea is simple. Air would be blown over a liquid solution of potassium carbonate, which would absorb the carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide would then be extracted and subjected to chemical reactions that would turn it into fuel: methanol, gasoline or jet fuel. (NYTimes)

here is an interesting idea for mitigating emissions from gasoline burning. it has advantages because

1) it's physically possible
2) it doesn't require a great restructuring of infrastructure

but it's not a new source of energy.

Farmed salmons killing their wild cousins

"Wild salmon have it tough these days, with dams blocking the routes to their spawning grounds and invasive predators congregating around their streams. But their worst enemy might be a familiar face. Contact with farmed salmon raised for supermarket shoppers seems to be killing off the wild fish, according to the first large-scale study of salmon farming's impact." (Science)

The implications are pretty deep. Take the case of salmon farms along the British Columbia coast where wild salmon stocks affect the entire wilderness ecosystem.

"Salmon feed eagles, bears, whales, wolves and even forests here," Krkosek explained.

It is a remarkable ecological story that Pacific salmon spend two years feeding in the open ocean, then return to their natal streams and rivers to spawn and die. Many species feed on the dying or dead salmon and they also bring large quantities of carcasses into forests at the same time. The decaying carcasses enrich the soil and feed many plants, including the region's mighty red cedars and sitka spruce trees.

Researchers have found salmon nutrients inside the leaves at the top of 2,000-year-old trees, says Krkosek." (Ipsnews)
