Next time, try not to be a douchebag

"From Pakistan to Gaza and Lebanon, militant Islamic movements have gained ground rapidly in recent years, fanning Western fears of a consolidation of radical Muslim governments. But here in the world’s most populous Muslim nation just the opposite is happening, with Islamic parties suffering a steep drop in popular support.

In parliamentary elections this month, voters punished Islamic parties that focused narrowly on religious issues, and even the parties’ best efforts to appeal to the country’s mainstream failed to sway the public." (NY Times)

For religious parties to succeed, concentrate on big morality, not small and vice morality. Advocate for the poor, clean government, education, unemployement, crime, health, etc and skip on trying to worry whether a traditional dance is too sexy or what women should wear.

Yeah, the big morality part is hard - it's easy to try to enforce "moral behaviour" through politics but those are fuckin' bullshit. Improve the well being of the nation and the rest will follow.
