Last July 2, it's legal to be gay in India. It's a massive progress. Mazel tov.

Fine print... It's only legal to be gay in Delhi. That's the only high court that's recognised gay rights so far. Other's could still adjudicate against being gay if they receive a case. But the decision does set a strong precedent because the case was won on constitutional grounds.

Some right-wing guru has now appealed the decision in the Supreme Court. The good thing is he will probably lose and that makes it legal to be gay all over India.

This is such a weird sentence, isn't it? Swap gay with other attributes of humanity and its absurdity becomes crystal clear.

Exactly! :)

It's the same as in any other country with a federal structure I guess. (US, for example). What's legal in one state is totally against the law in another...
