The non coup of Egyptian President

You must have heard about Morsi's revamp of Egyptian's military leadership. He replaced the head of the armed forces, the defense minister, the head of every branch of the military, the chief of intelligence and some more.

Yes it is a big move but it is not a coup. He is within his rights as a democratically elected President to revamp the national security apparatus of Egypt.

The purge also allows younger generals to fill up the top positions and inject fresh ideas on how to run the security system in the country. Field Marshal Tantawi, the ousted Defense Minister for example is 76 years old, way past retirement age.

Yes, I don't think the generals went out happily but there are enough support within the military ranks for Morsi to make this move.
